The Answers You Need

WHAT IS MICROBLADING AND MICROSHADING?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow procedure where pigment is implanted under the skin using a manual hand tool instead of a traditional tattoo machine. It uses a fine blade to create natural hair strokes that resembles real hair.

Microshading is also performed using a manual hand tool, but it uses a tiny round needle instead of a slope needle. This technique is similar to microblading but it creates a fuller and softer powdered effect that resembles eyebrow pencil or powder. It also has the effect of ombré eyebrows when mixed with microblading.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS?

Microblading is a 2 step process, usually 4-6 weeks apart. It is important to complete both the initial procedure and touch-up.

STEP 1: The initial procedure takes approximately 2 hours. During this time, your consultation is done to discuss your desired brow shape, colour and to draw the initial outline. Though our faces are not perfectly symmetrical, we do our very best to create as much symmetry as possible. As we like to say, “Brows are sisters, not twins.” Once you are satisfied with the shape and symmetry, the area is traced over and semi-permanent pigment is applied with a disposable microblading hand tool. This procedure uses a manual hand tool and not a machine.

STEP 2: The second stage is the touch-up appointment. The touch-up takes approximately 1.5 hours and is included in your service. Touch-ups are done no earlier than 4 weeks and no later than 6 weeks following your initial procedure. It is very important that you complete the touch-up treatment in order to achieve optimal results.  Colour will fade within 4 weeks as the skin heals, peels and fades. The touch-up corrects any irregularities in the microbladed hair strokes, blotches in microshading or changes in colour tones.

HOW LONG WILL MY NEW BROWS LAST?

Microblading is semi-permanent and can last between 1-3 years. In order to keep your brows looking fresh, annual touch-ups are recommended.

Clients who choose a softer look, lighter colour or those who do not follow the aftercare instructions properly may require more frequent touch ups.

Factors that will cause your microbladed brow tattoo fade faster:
• Iron deficiency
• Sun exposure
• Exfoliants
• Strong immune systems
• Smoking

IS IT PAINFUL?

We take every precaution necessary to ensure the procedure is as pain-free as possible.  A strong topical anaesthetic cream is used prior to and during the procedure to numb the area. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable while others find no discomfort at all.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?

For the first couple of days, your brows will appear significantly darker and more defined than your desired look. They will continue to darken during the scabbing process.  Not to worry, 30-50% of your brow colour will fade as the scabs fall off within the 5-10 days. In some cases, the scabs may take longer to heal and fall off. DO NOT PICK YOUR SCABS. The pigment is within the scab and you do not want to pull any pigment out of your skin prematurely. We all heal differently and what works on one client may not be effective on another so please do not compare your results.
The complete healing process takes approximately 3-4 weeks at which time the colour will slowly start coming back!

CAN YOU MICROBLADE OVER AN EXISTING BROW TATTOO?

Microblading can be done over an existing brow tattoo; however, the old tattoo must be significantly faded for the hair strokes to show through and look natural. If you have an existing tattoo, please submit a picture to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS DURING OR AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

During the procedure some minor bleeding, swelling and/or tenderness may occur.
